The mission of the Sheriff’s Special Response Team (S.R.T.) is to support the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies with a tactical response to certain high risk and critical incidents when so requested.
High risk and critical incidents include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
• Hostage situations
• Barricaded suspects or gunman
• Sniper situations where an armed suspect is firing upon citizens, or emergency personnel
• High risk arrests
• High risk warrant service
• Personal protection service
• Manhunt operations
SRT is compiled of sworn officers from the Sheriff’s Office. Members of the SRT serve on a voluntary basis. The Sheriff designates the position of SRT commander. The commander designates team leader positions within the team.
